Kenya

Region: Gachatha

Washing Station: Gachatha Coffee Factory

Variety: SL 28 - Ruiru 11 - Batian

Process: Washed

Altitude: 1,800 - 2,100 masl

Tasting Notes: Milk chocolate and white flower; it is a sweet, floral, full-bodied coffee with a creamy texture.

The Gachatha factory is located on the slopes of the Aberdare mountain range, in Karundu, Nyeri County, about 150 km north of Kenya's capital, Nairobi. It sits on 392 acres of land between the villages of Muthuaini, Thiriku, Gachenge and Kianjau. It started in 1963 with the creation of the Gachatha Farmers' Co-operative Society Ltd. It currently has 1,542 members. The factory treats all water in infiltration wells to ensure that no pollutants are discharged into local watercourses, which are a source of drinking water. The community also places great importance on protecting the native trees remaining in the area for local birdlife. The area experiences moderate bimodal rainfall and temperatures here range from 13 to 24 ºC throughout the year. The region has deep, fertile, well-drained red volcanic soils, ideal for coffee production.

FAQ

Cómo preparar

For the best experience, we recommend brewing with a [specific method, if applicable, e.g., pour-over, French press, etc.]. Use [recommended amount] of coffee per [amount of water] for a perfect cup every time. Experiment with grind size and brew time to find your sweet spot.

How should I store my coffee to keep it fresh?

Is it available in whole bean or pre-ground?

We offer it in both whole bean and pre-ground options. Whole beans are ideal for those who prefer to grind their coffee fresh before brewing, while our pre-ground option is convenient for quick, easy brewing.

What’s the best grind size?

The best grind size depends on your brewing method. For a French press, use a coarse grind. For pour-over or drip coffee, a medium grind is ideal. If you’re making espresso, go for a fine grind. Adjust the grind size to suit your personal taste and brewing preferences.
